There are several individuals and institutions that have already established a presence in the animation sector in Kenya,below is a list of the ones we were able to find.Should you have any more please feel free to inform us.


Studio Ang   Behind the scenes is a man by the name Bob Muchiri.He is among Kenya’s top professionals in the animation sector, responsible for adverts like Safaricom’s  Safis campaign…..and KCB’s Bankika advert simple yet creative. Read more on Bob Muchiri 

Recon Digital …….Another heavyweight is Recon Digital. This company’s demo reel shows that they are a cut above the rest and it’s one of the ones to lookout for in three years or so to come. Gatumia Gatumia runs Recon Digital and was the overall winner in The Chase Bank Enablis ILO 2011 business plan competition. He walked away with Kshs. 500,000 being the cash award for the Information Communication and Technology category. Gatumia is a certified Autodesk Maya Animator, trained in Toronto Canada and has 10 years of experience in producing Digital Content.

Kwame Nyongo ……The main ‘engine’, is a man by the name Kwame Nyongo owner of Apes in Space. The company has done some pretty impressive stuff like producing KBCs (Kenya Broadcasting Corporation’s) new logo. Yes…the reddish one…Although they probably need more than a new logo for redemption.Kwame Nyongo is definitely among the industry’s top players.

Ngendo Mukii …..Ngendo Mukii is one of the few Kenyan animators who play in the ‘Champions League’. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Animation and Video from Rhode Island school of design Providence, RI, USA.She’s been involved in many animation projects locally and several commercials on TV.

Drawblank Fx  …A 3D/2D digital production company based in Nairobi, Kenya comprising of a creative team of artists who specialize in post-production visual effects for feature film and advertising productions.Drawblankfx may just be among the best if their model of a Nissan matatu is anything to go by.(unfortunately the site has been inaccessible recently)

African SciFi digital media artist/producer Majiqmud Pete is the brains behind African sci-fi.Majiqmud has been involved in big Kenyan projects like the XYZ show as a visual effects director.The African sci-fi team definetly has the manpower and capability.

Shangtao….Of all the colleges in Kenya Shang Tao Media Arts stands out in the 3D field. It is one of  the pioneer colleges  locally ,of animation and visual effects and has established itself as a force to reckon with. If you want to delve into animation and need some formal training Shang Tao would be one of the places to check out first.

Nairobi Institute Of Technology Nairobi Institute of Technology…..another college in Nairobi that is fast becoming a go to place too for animation training in Kenya. The school located in Westland…offers Diploma/Certificate in Animation & Digital Media Design among other IT courses.

HomeBoyz Animation    Homeboyz animation………..Also one of the ‘big boys’ in the field having both the personnel and resources. Involved in various projects most well known being Tinga Tinga Tales that has been airing on Citizen TV. They offer training in animation too.

Zetech College  Zetech College…..A fast growing college that recently started offers Graphic Design Animation packages i.e.  Maya, Toonboom, 3D Max and Flash.

Academy of Graphic Technologies is another college in Kenya where one can get training in animation.

MultiMedia University College of Kenya is another of the colleges in Kenya that offers  a degree, Bachelor of Film and Animation .According to the college site it’s a  four-year degree programme that covers technical and creative components of filmmaking including concept development, screen writing, camera operation, production management, and directing, editing and sound design.

Inoorero University is another institution in Kenya that  recently began offering a course(Diploma in Multimedia and Motion Graphics) teaching 2D and 3D animation.

Gath Kenya It is a well known fact that Autodesk has some of the best products for 3d animation. Autodesk Partners in sub-Saharan Africa are Gath Management Ltd.If you’re interested in buying any of Autodesk’s Products then Gath Kenya will be your first stop. They are also an Autodesk® Authorised Training Centre offering some basic training in some of Autodesk’s products.

Champtamakunis   A team of developers of cutting edge 3D/2D animation, Architectural Visualizations, and Flash e-presentations for Kenya’s businesses.They have hit the road running and are pushing their content under a character by the name Champta Makuni.They are also involved in other projects with the like the creation of an animated series by the name Akokhan.

 Media Crave Media crave is a local advertising firm that also offers animation services. The firm show reel shows that they do have a capable team with great potential.

Digitall Definitions Founded by Andrew Kaggia in 2007, digitall definitions is an all-round media production facility dealing with 3D Animation &Visual FX for TV and Film, as well as Architectural Visualization for large scale projects

Rift Solutions Rift solutions team provides Feature Length 3D animation,Special effects for film/documentaries, Advertising, and Web and Graphic design. Using 3ds Max for most of its work the company’s mission is to become the premier provider of animation products in Africa and abroad.

Visual Edge Visual edge limited is another company that offers some 3D animation services among many other services. It has an impressive client list and would be a worthwhile company to engage for animation services, commercials and film making.

Frinant Pictures A Media Production Company pioneering provision of  innovative, rich and highly effective communication solutions to meet the marketing needs of their clients. 'Our solutions have succeeded in drawing the attention of some  well acclaimed National as well as International companies'.The company has also been involved in Naswa,a local 'comedy/prank show'.

Mwaniki Allan A lead animator for three years on the award winning Tinga Tinga Series amongst other productions.

SketchyArt is run by  Kevin Chepkech, a former student at Shang Tao Media Arts College.This 3DAnimator,is one of the few people who do impressive renders using blender 3d,pushing it to its limits. Mojo Kenya A production house in Kenya that has done some animations for TV adverts like kenchic, yu, sierra beer.

Olokut Alfred Muchilwa is Kenyan designer and animator who was was introduced to the world of animation after attending several UNESCO animation workshops. He is also part of the crew that worked on tinga tinga tales …..However the website hasn’t been updated for quite a while.

Brain Wave Kenya involved in making the Biddy’s margarine animated advert…..a heads up though, the website is quite a challenge to navigate for ‘vapour locked, closeted mind” as the site states…...whatever that is.Fortunately,we are not among them…are you?Regarding their animation capabilities,their Biddy's advert shows they have some potential to do big things.

Feysal Anthony-blog,cghub page,website Nair is a digital artist based in Kenya. The guy has some very impressive renders though most of the “show reel” contains rated 'feminine' renders/images/stuff….

Mind Bend Probably dable in animation too,we aren't quite sure yet.

Raphael murambi is another of Kenyan animators to watch out for in the coming years. He has done some remarkable work and definitely has the skill as the render (image) above proves.

3D Africa Communications-A team of illustrators, artists, designers and animators with extensive experience (over seven years).The firm does

Create 101.Founded in early 2006 by people with a passion for all things creative. They are also involved in some 3d animating.

Skechi.Now here is another local Animator who has great potential.The site is simple but from the works exhibited,i'm sure you'll have to agree that he is among the best we have.

Chomoka Studio is another local based animation company that is doing great things in the industry.They have the capability of doing both 2d and 3d animation-a huge plus for any animation firm.

Paula Callus.Now here is a site any animator in Kenya should bookmark.The blog has a wide variety of content and what makes it different is that most of it is relevant to Africa-and consequently Kenyans too.So stay informed on African animation developments,stories,e.t.c by visiting this site

Stephen Biamah an art lover…is a foreign based 3d/2d artist/animator from Kenya. He a degree in fine arts and animation from Savannah College of Art and Design. Skilled in adobe suite and Autodesk Maya.Definetly has the potential to do big things and we do hope he will contribute to the improvement of the Kenyan industry someday.

K-wax. A Nairobi based firm that designs websites does graphic illustrations and 3D illustrations.

Creativechemical Studios is a design agency that deals with 2D & 3D graphics, motion works, animation and architectural projects, and to a certain extent fashion design. Inspired by key figures in the industry already, such as 2A, FWA and The Gnomon Workshop, Creative Chemical Studios aims at achieving heights greater than those of the above mentioned, all by the grace of God.....from what i've seen,creative studio are definetly among the best digital artists in Kenya

Mwangianimation This is a blog maintained by a Kenyan animator who works for Balozi productions.

Vive Visuals is also another of the companies trying to produce quality animation and architectural visualizations in Kenya.

 

 3d Alive are digital media consultants with quite an impressive ArchiViz renders.

tupo3d is an innovative organization that develops animation, 3d models and interactive environments for education and entertainment.The company seems to have chosen edutainment animation as their core work.

Arena Arts Multimedia College is a leading institute offering diploma and certificate courses in multimedia, web design, 2D&3D animation, graphic design, DVD Authoring,motion graphics,KASNEB certifications

Bamboozle VFX regards itself as a Post Production specialising in Compositing for Visual Effects and Grading. In addition they also provide 3D Animation, Traditional(2D i guess) and Interactive Design Services.

CrystalFX LTD provide Photography, Videography, Visual Effects, Architectural Visualization and 3D computer animation solutions.For CrystalFX "Innovation and Creativity" is their hallmark.

James Agudah is another digital artist from Nairobi with quite a good  portfolio.Check out his site and gauge it for yourself.

kb Visuals is a 3D Visualization & Fabrication Company based in Nairobi offering Interior Design, Exhibition Design, 3D Virtual tour, Furniture, 3D Animation, Architectural Viz & Branding.

Kimani Sam is another individual in Kenya who regards himself as an artist,animator and graphic designer.His work is quite good too.

Sui Generis  The name Sui Generis apparently means unique and these fellows are doing there best to ensure their work speaks for itself by being unique too.It is an architectural and interiors design solutions company.

 

Remnants Kenya image   is a multimedia company offering service 3D animation among other services.Their website is needs some improvements though.

 

Unimind media       is another firm in Kenya doing 3D animation and visual effects Unimind Media Ltd provides innovative digital media solutions and content development services in the region

 

Urban FX  is a Creative Hub offering lasting business solutions.Their areas of specialization include; Graphic Design, Web Design and Development, Animation, Audio and Video Production and Photography.

Virtual designs     The increase in the number of people doing 3D has also seen a demand for rendering services go up leading to company’s such as virtual designs setting up rendering services for those who need them locally.

Shadrack Munene is also another creative in the animation industry with a wealth of experience.Having worked for ShoutHuge productions and Tsunami studios he now runs he's own design firm offering 3D services among other things.
